“Effective delegation to others is perhaps the single most powerful high-leverage activity there is.  Delegation to others means growth for both involved.”

“I believe that everyone has the power to impact the outcome of life.  The way to do it is to focus on today.  Benjamin Franklin rightly observed, “One today is worth two tomorrows; what I am to be, I am now becoming.”  You can make today a good day.  In fact, you can make your life a masterpiece.”

John C. Maxwell

“The goal of an I & E Club is educating inventors & entrepreneurs to develop successful businesses while giving back to new members, entrepreneurs and the betterment of the community.”

I attended my local I & E Club meeting yesterday and I wanted to share with you some of the highlights of the presentation that was given by the keynote speaker of the evening, Brett Smith, President of S & S Cycle.  He gave us a peek into his leadership philosophy, speaking on the topic of honesty and fairness in the workplace.  I broke down the highlights of the presentation below.

The Moral Foundation of Leadership

  • Honesty & fairness foster trust
  • Honesty & fairness command respect

The Ethical Pillars of Leadership

  • Don’t ask others to do things you aren’t prepared to or won’t do yourself
  • Look out for subordinates, peers and superiors alike
  • Lead by example
  • Care for others

The Pinnacle of Leadership (Have & Communicate a Vision)

  • Good leaders know where they need to go
  • Exceptional leaders’ communication ability allows others to help them get there

The Air of Leadership (Mentor & Seek to Be Mentored)

  • Mentoring subordinates is an investment necessary for future growth and expansion
  • Progressive leaders seek mentoring to continually grow and replciate themselves

The I & E Club brings together like-minded individuals to network and create a contagious entrepreneurial environment that is extremely supportive.  If you have a local chapter in your area, it may be worth your time to check it out.  Also, as a side note, at the end of each meeting, each person is given the opportunity to speak about themselves, their business and/or invention.  A great way to get your business and/or invention known!

And…

I saved the best for last…there is no cost to join!!!

I just finished reading this book and I highly recommend that you pick up a copy for yourself.  It has a great message that is truly inspirational and can be applied both in your business and everyday life.  The authors of this book, Bob Burg & John David Mann, base the book around what they call “The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success”:

The Law of Value

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

The Law of Compensation

Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

The Law of Influence

Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

The Law of Authenticity

The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

The Law of Receptivity

The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

The book itself reads very fast.  I read it in one sitting and could not put it down once I picked it up!
